Coleman: Don’t Ditch Caucuses

There was talk among some Minnesota lawmakers Wednesday that record turnout for Super Tuesday’s precinct caucuses — and some of the problems caucus-goers encountered — is proof the state should switch to a presidential primary vote.

Don’t count U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman among those itching to ditch the caucus system.

The Republican senator, who is up for re-election this year, told reporters Thursday that big crowds for the neighborhood political events is a good thing.
"I thought the caucuses were a resounding success," Coleman said.

Of the turnout, he said: "That says something about the character and spirit of Minnesota."
