Maybe McCain Waits

A CNN commentary expresses a view becoming more and more prevalent
these days: Sen. John McCain would be better served if he waited to name his vice
presidential candidate.

Leslie Sanchez writes that the Republican candidate would do
well to wait for Democrat Barack Obama to pick his running mate. Picking second would mean that McCain would be able to
select someone to counter the Obama pick, whether it be for geographic or other
type of demographic balance.

Holding off until after Democrats meet in Denver also would give McCain a chance to steal some publicity that Obama otherwise would receive between the two conventions.

Sanchez says that
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty may not be the best selection if McCain wants to
win the state: "Minnesota itself has an upscale, left-of-center
orientation that seems to put it beyond the reach of Republicans, Pawlenty or
no Pawlenty."
