Al Franken lost the endorsement of an influential Democratic Iron Range politician, but today said he is happy with support he’s getting in northeastern Minnesota.
Former state Sen. Doug Johnson, a Tower Democrat, told the Mesabi Daily News he supports Republican Sen. Norm Coleman over Franken.
"Norm Coleman has a passion on issues without getting angry at the opposition," Johnson told the Range newspaper, later adding: "Al Franken appears passionate but angry."
Franken told reporters in a conference call that he has campaigned frequently on the Iron Range and said other state lawmakers from the area support his candidacy.
"I know the difference between being a public figure and being an office-holder," the former comedian said, "and I’ll be able to work very well with friends across the aisle on all kinds of things."
