Late Changes?

Minnesota Republican Chairman Ron Carey is prepared for anything this weekend.

Carey recalled that things often can happen as a campaign nears an end. In 1980, for instance, President Jimmy Carter was leading in the polls just before Election Day, but Ronald Reagan pulled out a sizeable upset.

Then there was 2006.

"Two years ago we sat here thinking Mike Hatch was going to be governor," Carey said.

Then, Democrat Hatch called a Forum Communications reporter a "Republican whore" and he lost a close race to Gov. Tim Pawlenty, the GOP chairman remembered.
