Dayton inaugural ball to offer ‘sweet surprise’

If seeing Gov. Mark Dayton attending his inaugural ball in jeans isn’t enough of an attraction, the menu has been released.

It includes, in the words of a public relations writer, “A sweet late night surprise: a local milk bar with a Minnesota State Fair favorite, Sweet Martha’s cookies.”

The Saturday night affair at the Minneapolis Convention Center also will feature wild rice and mushroom appetizers, turkey and cranberry sandwiches, walleye cakes and Minnesota cheese and sausage.

Tickets for the 6:30 p.m. to midnight ball are available at www.daytoninauguration.org for $30. Students and low-income Minnesotans pay $15 and may request an even lower rate.

Dayton has said the ball’s dress code includes everything from jeans to black tie. While campaigning, he told Forum Communications that any day that he can wear jeans is a good day, but in public since he became governor on Monday he has been seen in suits and ties.
