Farm equipment lighting legislation filed

Congress will consider legislation setting a standard for lighting on farm equipment using public roads.

“In Minnesota, tractors and combines need to be able to use our roads so that farmers can do their jobs,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., said.  “We need clear safety measures in place to keep both farmers and families safe when they share the road.”

A bill by Klobuchar and Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., would supersede 50 different state standards, many of which the senators say are outdated.

The bill would not force existing equipment to meet the standards, but it would apply to new equipment.
