GOP Candidates Go After Media

A couple of Republican politicians are taking on the media, the “liberal media” as they see it.

U.S. Senate candidate Kurt Bills’ campaign manager says the media is not adequately covering the campaign against U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, saying the Minnesota media “has failed to hold Amy Klobuchar accountable.”

A Bills’ news release says: “To listen to the media it sometimes seems that liberals have angel’s wings and conservatives have horns. Worse, in some ways, is the fact that Democrats can say and do the most outrageous things and not get called on it.”

In particular, the Bills campaign complains that Klobuchar gets away with calming to be bipartisan despite voting with Democrats 94 percent of the time.

“The media has been AWOL during this campaign,” Campaign Manager Mike Osskopp said.

“Klobuchar is a senator, not a prom queen,” added Osskopp, known for colorful quotes during his time in the Minnesota House.

While Osskopp criticizing the media is unusual, it was not rare to hear that from U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann.

In a fund-raising email to supporters, the Minnesota Republican said: “My liberal opponent, the liberal news media and the national Democratic attack machine are watching our campaign’s every move.”
